Child Care Services

Whitecourt is home to a service company that links parents in need of childcare services with childcare providers.  For more information, pick up the Whitecourt Community Directory from the Community Services Department at the Town Administration Office and look under ‘Daycare Services’ in the back of the directory.

Parent Link/Early Childhood Development Programs



The Parent Link Early Childhood Development Centre provides programming and resources for families with children 0-6 years of age. The Centre was designed to ensure that parents have the supports needed to help their children develop and fulfill their potential. At the centre parents can access information about community services, obtain referrals, and meet other parents, children, and families, while taking part in quality early learning activities. Four core services are provided at the centre:

  • Parent Education
  • Family Support
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Information & Referral

A variety of programs are offered throughout the week that encourage learning through play, peer interaction, parent interaction, parent-child interaction, language development and healthy child development practices. Call 778-2004 for the current program schedule.


Family Community Liaison Program

The Family Community Liaison Program provides support to children 6-18 years of age and their families living in Whitecourt and the surrounding area.  Services include: individual meetings at school, in the home or at the Family Community Liaison office.  Through activities and discussions, strategies and information are provided to help families and children.  Family Community Liaison Workers also make referrals to other community resources and agencies.

The program also facilities Children’s Groups. Children’s groups are run at various schools focusing on self-esteem, social skills and other issues.

Spruceview Seniors Lodge

Operated and managed by the Lac Ste. Anne Foundation, Spruceview Seniors Lodge is a 50-room facility.  The Lodge was expanded in 2007 with the addition of 30 apartment-style suites with kitchenettes.  Housekeeping and lunch is included in all rental rates.  Tenants in the suites have the option of purchasing additional meal service.  Homecare services are available for those who need assistance.

Operated and managed by the Lac Ste. Anne Foundation, Woodland Villa offers sixteen self-contained apartments for seniors.

We sponsor senior events throughout the year please call 778-6300 to find out about upcoming events. Are you having difficulty filling out benefit forms? We can assist seniors complete senior benefit applications. Please call 778-6300 to make an appointment.


Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Transportation Program

The Town of Whitecourt operates a Transportation Program for seniors and persons with disabilities.  To be eligible for the program individuals must be over the age of 65 or have a physical or mental disability that has been assessed by a doctor.

Eligible individuals can ride the bus Monday through Friday 8-5pm for $3.00/one-way trip. Call 706-5755 for a ride.  Eligible individuals also receive 6 tickets per month in the summer and 8 tickets per month in the winter.  Tickets can be used for a free one way trip on the bus or by calling a cab and paying $3.15 along with the ticket.

Whitecourt Food Bank

The Whitecourt Food Bank has been serving the community for over 20 years, and served 1032 individuals in 2007. The Food Bank would not be able to operate without the generous donations and volunteer support from the community. Thank-you for your assistance!

The Food Bank is an emergent food service, located in the Community Services Department at the Town of Whitecourt Administration Building.   Hours of operation are:
Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 -11:30AM
Identification must be presented for each family member at every visit.  

Families can access the food bank four times per year.  Each time a family visits the Food Bank they will receive a weeks worth of food for each family member residing in their household.

The Food Bank also provides families with referrals to other community resources.
