The site consists of 9 metal bins used for disposing most household wastes. There is an average of 74 vehicles per day to the Transfer Station. A local contractor then hauls the waste to the landfill - approximately 61 bins are dumped per month; this amounts to approximately 2% of the total refuse hauled to the landfill.
The Whitecourt Transfer Station is no longer accepting newspaper and cardboard for recycling. You are encouraged to recycle these materials, as well as tins, milk cartons, glass or plastic products, at the Northwest Sanitation 24-hour drop-off facility located at 4216 42 Street.
The Whitecourt Transfer Station will continue to accept compost material and electronic products for recycling, and household hazardous waste for safe disposal.
E-Material Recycling Program
The Transfer Station accepts electronic material for recycling! The following electronic materials are accepted at the Transfer Station:
- Televisions
- Desktop Computers
- Laptops

Composting
Grass, leaves and garden wastes are also accepted at the Transfer Station for composting. When decomposition is complete, the composted material is available free of charge to the public. The Town uses this material as well as a topsoil supplement for flowerbeds and as mulch for planted ornamental trees/shrubs.
Wood Chipping
The Transfer Station also accepts trees that are less than 6 inches in diameter for chipping.
