This position reports to the Deputy Fire Chief.

The Whitecourt Fire Department is housed in a modern facility with excellent equipment and apparatus. Fire Services, working with the RCMP, the Ambulance Service and mutual aid partners, is critical to the safety and quality of life in our community. We provide service to the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County Fire District 1.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, this position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Fire Department training programs, maintaining detailed records of training activities, competencies and certifications.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergency incidents in a leadership role, ensuring the safety, coordination, and well-being of all personnel and the public. 
• Participate in the On-Call Duty Officer rotation, responding as required to provide management, supervision and command of emergency incidents. 
• Support operational readiness of department members, facilities, apparatus, and equipment by assisting with maintenance and safety inspections as required.
• Facilitate the delivery of comprehensive training programs including firefighter, technical rescue, and officer development.
• Coordinate and provide support to Captains and/or other Officers as required to maintain and deliver consistent training in accordance with established standards and best practices.
• Continuously analyze the effectiveness of the training programs and identifying areas for improvement, ensure training programs are up to date with latest technology, equipment, procedures and regulations, and provide recommendations as required for improvement.
• Develop and maintain lesson plans, procedural documents, resources and materials to support safe and effective training. 
• Assist in the review, development, and implementation of rules, regulations, procedures, and standard operating guidelines to ensure consistency, safety, and effectiveness in departmental operations.
• Compile and maintain an inventory of all training equipment, materials and resources.
• Maintain the training grounds/facility in a state of good repair and readiness.
• Contribute to Fire Department planning and provide training-specific insights and recommendations for the annual operating and capital budgets, while also offering input on overall department operations and resource allocation.
• Provide assistance to firefighters, officers, operations support, and public education staff as needed.
• Support professional development through mentorship and coaching to foster career progression and succession planning within the department.
• Foster and champion a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment.
• Participate in the Town’s municipal safety program in all aspects and ensure that applicable safety standards and legislative requirements are adhered to.
• Foster relationships with emergency services partners to identify and implement collaborative training opportunities and enhance efficiencies.
• Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. 


Qualifications

• Must possess at least four years’ experience in Fire Service with experience responding in a leadership capacity.
• Must have successfully completed NFPA 1001 Level II, NFPA 1041 Level II, NFPA 1021 Level I, NFPA 1002 Driver/Pump/Aerial Operator. (ProBoard or IFSAC)
• Completion of Live Fire Instructor, NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer, Basic Safety Codes Officer, Fire Inspector Level I, Advanced First Aid and ICS 100, 200 would be assets however required to be obtained during course of employment.   
• Must possess the ability to deal effectively with the public and fire department members.
• Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership, supervision, and sound judgment under conditions of stress.
• Must possess a valid Alberta 3Q drivers’ license.

The Town of Whitecourt offers a competitive compensation package to the successful applicant.  The current salary range for this position is $84,264.00 - $93,501.49.  The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, driver’s abstract, and criminal record check.
