Our organization has an opening for a permanent, full-time, Infrastructure Services Engineer within the Infrastructure Services Department.
Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Infrastructure Services Manager, this position will assist in engineering surveys, design and construction drawings review, permitting, inspections, traffic counts, data input and analysis and asset verification. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town Pavement Management System, sidewalk and pathway Management System.
Duties:
- Maintain, update, analyze and verify the Town Pavement Management System (PMS) and Sidewalk and Pathway Management System.
- Perform site survey, data collection and analysis of infrastructure assets (i.e., roadways, drainage, utilities, landfill, and treatment facilities etc.).
- Assist the Asset Manager/Development Engineer with the asset management system and GIS (Geographical Information Systems).
- Conduct field inspections of Town projects and private development driven projects related to the Town’s infrastructure.
- Provide technical support to Infrastructure Services Department branches on various projects.
- Prepare tender packages for Town projects.
- Produce and create AutoCAD drawings and maps.
- Review various technical proposals, evaluates, prepare engineering reports and reports for Committees or Council.
Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education in Engineering or, Engineer-In-Training or, Diploma in Civil Engineering or, P. Tech. (Eng.)/(Geo) or, work towards obtaining a professional designation.
- 3 to 5 years of experience with demonstrated technical and applied knowledge in municipal infrastructure design and construction/rehabilitation.
- Previous experience with municipal infrastructure asset management and multi-year budget work planning.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to critically analyze information and solve problems of a complex nature.
- Ability to deal effectively with representatives of government, business, consultants, developers, contractors, the general public, and town staff.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, GIS mapping, and other engineering software/databases. Familiarity with ArcGIS and asset management software would be beneficial.

The Town of Whitecourt currently has casual positions available with Whitecourt Transit. These positions vary and require early morning, evening, daytime, and weekend shifts, with rotating schedules.
As a Whitecourt Transit Driver you will operate a Whitecourt Transit vehicle with an established route and time schedule with a varying number of stops along the way. Drivers are responsible for collecting fares, responding to customer inquiries concerning transit information, and ensuring the safety of all customers. This position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, exceptional customer service, and an ability to deal with a variety of passengers.
Successful applicants will have:
• Class 2 driver's licence;
• Clean driving record and experience driving bus;
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification;
• Air brakes endorsement is an asset.
Successful candidates must enjoy working with the public, must have above average inter-personal communications skills, and be able to maintain records and statistics on ridership. Prior to being hired, a vulnerable sector record check, intervention check, and clean drivers’ abstract must be submitted and deemed acceptable to the Employer.

FESTIVAL PARK ATTENDANTS – Job #25-004
Duties include: Maintenance of Festival Park. This includes hand mowing, weed whipping, weeding, garbage picking, cleaning washrooms, cleaning benches and picnic areas, cleaning water features, welcoming and answering questions from park visitors, dealing with emergency situations and other jobs as needed. VISITOR INFORMATION COUNSELLOR – Job #25-007
Duties include: Welcoming and directing visitors to the community and points of interest in the region, conducting tours of the Forest Interpretive Centre gallery and Heritage Park, general administrative duties, answering telephone inquiries, stocking and maintaining the visitor information guides and brochures.
SUMMER PROGRAM LEADER – Job #25-008
Duties include: Planning and implementing summer camp programming for children aged 5-15; providing guidance to other staff and leaders-in-training; assisting with community events and other recreation programs; and various duties within the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. Applicants should be comfortable working in various weather and environmental conditions.
FIRE DEPARTMENT – FIRESMART LABOURERS – Job #25-009
Duties include: Working to reduce the wildfire risk in the community. This will include tree falling and pruning, small scale brush clearing and deadfall removal, wood chipping and minor trail repair, large area mowing and weed whipping, public interaction and education in FireSmart principles. Successful applicants will be working in forested areas and park sites in and around the town of Whitecourt. Training will be provided but chainsaw experience and enrollment in a Forestry or related education program will be considered assets. Applicants must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license and be physically fit.
ENGINEERING STUDENT – Job #25-010
Duties include: Conduct inspections on public infrastructure: sidewalk, curb and gutter, asphalt, pavement, etc. Assist with Survey with road and drainage system. Assist with contract administration and site inspections. Prepare detailed estimates of quantities. Create AutoCAD drawings.
Applicants for all positions except Job #25-004, Job #25-007 and Job #25-008 must be able to commence full time duties May 1, 2025.
