Construction of the Community Fireguard has begun

Construction of the Community Fireguard Project starts January 31, 2025.
The fireguard project is part of Whitecourt’s fire hazard reduction and protection strategy to help with the ongoing safety and security of the community. The fireguard is a strategically constructed feature where trees, brush and fuel sources are removed, will break the path of wildfire that could potentially move towards property, infrastructure, and other values at risk. The project area extends from Ecole St. Joseph School in the north, to Highway 43 in the south.
- There will be increased heavy equipment and vehicular traffic during the construction in the project area. The public is asked to remain out of the project area during construction.
- Construction is scheduled for completion at the end of March 2025.
