Whitecourt River Slides reopen; other areas along the Athabasca River remain closed to the public

Posted on:
The Town of Whitecourt has been working to clean up areas that were impacted by floodwaters from the Athabasca River last week.

The Whitecourt River Slides in Festival Park have reopened. The recent flood event has caused higher levels of sediment in the pond and discolouration of the water. As the sediment dissipates the water clarity will improve. Other areas of Festival Park that have reopened include the playground, fields, Splash Park and Off-Leash Dog Park.

The following areas remain closed until debris can be removed and infrastructure assessments are completed:

  • Riverside Trail from Flats Road through to 47 Street;
  • 47 Street north of Flats Road;
  • Riverboat Park.
The Whitecourt Golf & Country Club remains closed.  Follow the Club’s Facebook page for details on when it will reopen.
