McLeod and Athabasca Rivers Flood Watch Update for Whitecourt as of 11:15AM

A Flood Watch remains in effect for the McLeod and Athabasca Rivers at Whitecourt.

A State of Local Emergency has been declared in the Town of Whitecourt due to flooding.

  • The Westview Mobile Village (Westview Trailer Court) has been issued a Mandatory Evacuation Order. All Westview Mobile Village residents must evacuate by 1:30pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
    • An Evacuation Reception Centre has been established for Westview Mobile Village residents at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre (58 Sunset Boulevard). All evacuees must register at the Reception Centre.
  • A Mandatory Evacuation Order remains in place at Sagitawah RV Park.
    • Those evacuated from Sagitawah RV Park are to register with the Sagitawah RV Park at 780-778-3734.

People are reminded to exercise extreme caution around the rivers. The following facilities and amenities are closed until further notice:

  • Festival Park and the surrounding trail system in and out of the Park;
  • Riverside Trail;
  • Whitecourt Golf & Country Club;
  • Riverboat Park.

Flooding has occurred at the north end of 47 Street/Millar Road, and the road is closed temporarily at Flats Road. Barricades have been erected, and members of the public are asked to obey all posted signage.

Due to flooding, Highway 32 near Township Road 583B/Groat Creek staging area is reduced to single lane, alternating traffic. Temporary traffic lights with speed reduced to 50km/hr is in place. For updates visit 511 Alberta.
