Water Main Flushing Program to start June 16

Posted on:
The Town of Whitecourt Infrastructure Services Department is completing water main flushing throughout the community starting Sunday, June 16, 2024.
  • The flushing will take place between the hours of 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM Sunday through Thursday to avoid any disruption of services during peak hours.
  • It is expected that the flushing program will be complete by June 28, 2024.
During the flushing process, it is possible that water may appear cloudy or coloured. If this happens, run the cold tap for a few minutes until it clears. Also, water pressure may vary during times of flushing.

For the safety of our workers, motorists are asked to use caution when driving near Utilities Staff on our streets during the flushing program.

If you have questions, please contact Utilities at 780-778-0528.

Why does the town flush the water mains?

Flushing helps maintain water quality.  The water entering the distribution mains is of high quality; however, water quality can deteriorate in distribution mains if the mains are not properly managed.  Flushing the lines removes sediments from the mains, and helps to remove water that can get caught in dead ends.
