Whitecourt Town Council Update - March 25, 2025

The 2024 project list as of December 31, 2024 was presented as information to Council.  The report outlines capital projects scheduled during the year, and is available for viewing on Whitecourt’s website.  The 2025 project list will be presented to Council in the second quarter.

Council has authorized the write off of uncollectable utility accounts in the amount of $20,685.16.

Council has updated the terms of the Ad Hoc Culture & Events Centre Partnership/Sponsorship Committee.  The Committee will be responsible for finalizing the sponsorship/partnership package, and identifying potential partners/sponsors for the facility.

Council has authorized membership on the Mid-Sized Towns Mayors’ Caucus.  The group aims to address unique challenges that are specific to municipalities of similar size to Whitecourt.

Council has a Special Meeting scheduled for April 2, 2025 at 4pm to discuss the 2025 Budget and the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework.

Whitecourt has proclaimed June 14, 2025 as Lemonade Day.  Community Futures Yellowhead East is hosting the 2025 Lemonade Day event that teaches youth how to start own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand.  Registration to the program is open until May 15, and further information can be found online at https://lemonadedday.org/northern-alberta

A new Fire Services Bylaw was approved at the March 24 Regular Council Meeting.  The new bylaw consolidates a number of other bylaws, and outlines roles and responsibilities of the Whitecourt Fire Department.  For further information on the changes, please refer to www.whitecourt.ca.
