Whitecourt Town Council Update

Whitecourt Town Council has adopted a bylaw that authorizes a $19,000 loan to Tennille’s Hope Kommunity Kitchen to install a commercial air conditioner. The loan was granted under the Town’s Investing In Our Community program which provides financial assistance in the form of loans to community organizations to assist in leveraging their resources for community capital investments that will benefit the community.

Council adopted Council Committee Bylaw 1570 which establishes the mandate, functions and procedures of permanent Council Committees.

Whitecourt has donated a used floor scrubber to the Westlock & District Tractor Museum Foundation. The equipment reached its end of life for Whitecourt’s needs, and the Foundation requested the scrubber for use at the Canadian Tractor Museum.

Whitecourt Town Council approved the use and closure of a portion of Sunset Boulevard on Saturday, June 3 for the 2023 Run 4 Fun event. This year’s event includes a 5km, 10km, half marathon and kids marathon categories. For more information, and to register, visit www.whitecourt.ca/play/run-4-fun.

Seniors’ Week activities are planned June 5 to 10. Details on all planned events and activities can be found on the event calendar at www.whitecourt.ca.

The Whitecourt Youth Advisory Committee is hosting Town Hall events at Percy Baxter Middle School and Ecole St. Joseph School on May 30. The event aims to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of municipal government.

A Pride Celebration and BBQ event, hosted in partnership with Pembina, is scheduled on June 9 at Festival Park. The event will include crafts and activities to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Whitecourt.
