Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative celebrates provincial recognition
Posted on:The Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative has received provincial recognition for their efforts, and was recently awarded the Minister’s Award for Municipal and Public Library Excellence in the Enhancing Community Safety category.
The award was presented to the group at the November 2 gala event hosted by the Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative. The award is given to an innovative initiative that engages the community to address a safety issue. For 20 years, the Initiative has worked with the goal of reducing family violence through education, intervention and awareness activities, supports, and programming. Most recently, the Initiative created two unique programs for Whitecourt to fill gaps in community supports specifically related to Family Violence Court and safe visitation.
“The Whitecourt Family Violence Initiative, which involves a variety of community stakeholders, is incredibly deserving of this award,” added Whitecourt Mayor Tom Pickard. “This group has shown that stopping the cycle of family violence is a collective effort, and that together we can make a difference to prevent and put an end to domestic violence.”
